Are you thinking of putting in a master bathroom vanity and are wondering what goes with dark cherry wood?

This gorgeous vanity is in a semi-custom home in Steiner Ranch, in Austin Texas. The homeowners replaced the original stock cabinets that the builder installed with this absolutely beautiful custom-made cherry vanity. We fabricated and installed Typhoon Bordeaux Rustic granite from Shenoy here in Austin for the countertop and backsplash.

You should check out another recent countertop job we did that also used Typhoon Bordeaux Rustic granite. That kitchen has white cabinets, and the granite goes great with the white cabinetry as well as with the dark cherry in this master bathroom.

This granite has red, and cream and gold and green in it. Each bundle of slabs (and each slab, really) has strong, and different coloration and movement. You can see in the kitchen article that the granite is darker and stronger. In this bathroom the granite is a little lighter and has more cream in the background.

The edge profile on this countertop is called “eyebrow”. It’s like a modified bullnose edge in that the rounding is a little less on both the top and the bottom. The backsplashes are 4-inches tall.

This master bathroom vanity top is almost 110-inches long. The two undermount sinks are white porcelain in a style we sell called the “trench”. They are nice and wide, and deep and the rectangular shape is very up-to-date in style.

Cherry Cabinets Go With a Lot of Master Bathroom Vanity Granite Colors

Dark cherry is a rich color for wooden cabinets. Fortunately, it goes very nicely with a lot of granite colors. Another granite color that would look good in this space is Santa Cecilia.

Need a Cheap and Fast Vanity Top?

We have a Rustic Coral Bathroom vanity top almost ready to go. It’s 23 inches deep (22.5 inches is standard) and 43 inches wide. It will fit perfectly on a 42-inch bathroom vanity, or we can cut it down to fit something smaller. It’s one-of-a-kind, so when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Rustic Coral granite is a dark rusty color with dark charcoal and black specks in the granite. We did a really pretty outdoor barbeque in this stone earlier this year.

I found it tucked away in the shop behind some other tabletops we have for sale, and had the guys pull it out to snap a few photos to share with you.

The sink hole looks a bit uneven, but we’ll clean that up when we cut it down to the measurments that you need to put this into your home. The sink that fits this counter is a large white oval undermount sink.

The edge profile on this vanity top is called “waterfall”, also known as a “half-bullnose” edge. We can add the same profile to either the right or the left (or both) depending on how your cabinet is positioned in the bathroom.

The Deal on this Vanity Top

If you bring us your measurements, and come and pick up the finished counter, you can have this puppy for $230. Oooh, yes, that isn’t a typo: $230 for a top-quality granite vanity top. That INCLUDES the sink! We’ll mount the sink to the counter, and finish the edges to your size.

In case you are wondering, this is the thicker granite (called “3cm”), which is about 1 3/16 inches thick. It’s not the thinner stuff you see on the pre-fab counters from the big box stores. Ths isn’t a pre-fab – we made it in our shop here in Austin, Texas.

You can come and get it in your car, or your truck, and take it home and pop it onto your cabinet with some Liquid Nails.

You’ll need to install some sort of backsplash to cover the unfinished edge at the back. Most people just put in a few rows of tile. Travertine would look great with the colors in the Rustic Coral granite. You can even bring a few samples to our shop with you when you bring in your measurements to check on how the colors in your tile go with the colors in the granite.

Are you considering updating a home with older cabinets and laminate countertops?

This home was a foreclosure in Round Rock, and was purchased as an investment property. The older kitchen cabinets were replaced with the nice spice-colored new ones, and new counters were installed. We worked with the client and his designer over a few months to make sure the counters were economical but still gorgeous.

Peacock Green is one of the least expensive granite colors, yet it looks a lot more expensive. Each bundle that we see come through the local stone yards looks considerably different than the other bundles. If you’re considering this color of granite for your own investment property or your own home, you will want to go and pick the exact slabs that will be turned into your countertops.

All of the slabs we’ve seen of Peacock Green granite are decidedly green. Some have big flecks of color, some have more gold in them, some have more black.

The granite edge profile on these counters is called “pencil round”. This edge is just a little bit curved on the top and the bottom (double pencil, actually), to just soften the edge a bit. This entire kitchen fit on a single large slab of Peacock Green.

It’s hard to see in the photo because of the bright light from the window, but the windowsill also has about a 10-inch deep piece of the same dark green Peacock Green granite.

This pair of oak vanities are in the master bathroom in a lovely home in Georgetown, Texas. These vanities had the original cultured marble tops from when the home was built in 1991.

The owners selected a very pretty slab of Ornamental granite from Midwest Granite here in Austin. Once the slab was delivered to our shop, the homeowners came by and showed us where they wanted some of the patterns in the stone to go on the countertops.

Ornamental granite is usually fairly uniform in pattern, but this slab has some very nice swaths of tan movement across the face of the stone.

You can see in these photos what the spaces looked like before and after the new granite tops were installed. The mirrors were removed before we got there, to make sure they didn’t break when the older counters were taken off.

(In many older homes, the mirrors sit on top of the top edge of the backsplash. Over time, the space between them fills up with caulk and stuff and it can be difficult to remove the counter without damaging the mirror).

Although the caulk looks white, it will dry clear overnight.

These sinks are undermount sinks in a style we sell called “basin”. They are rectangular and don’t take up too much space.

The edge profile on these counters is a half-inch bevel.

The backsplashes have flat-polished edges and are 4-inches tall. You can see how neatly they were cut to fit next to the tub surround and the doorway. Flat-polish is the standard edge for stone backsplashes, even when the counter has a different edge profile (like a bullnose, of half-inch bevel).

Love The Rusty Coppery Colors in Copper Canyon Granite?

You’re in luck because Copper Canyon comes in several variations, and one of them might just be the winner for your new kitchen counters.

Check out this slab of Copper Canyon Rustic we found at SGM last week. It has the classic color combination of Copper Canyon: rusts, golds, some browns, salmon and ivory. Overall, it reads “rust”, more more aptly, “copper”.

Bold Granite for Bold Design

So, what do you do with a stone that is as dramatic as Copper Canyon Rustic?

You can make it (well, we can make it for you) into a fabulous, huge kitchen island. If the cabinets beneath it are dark brown (espresso), black or shades of white or ivory, it will really pop as the focal point of your kitchen.

We’ve seen this stone used as THE stongest design element in a kitchen, with everything else being very . . . neutral. We’ve also seen it in homes where even a granite a bold and glorious as this one isn’t the strongest design element. You know, homes with rich, dark paint colors, metallic finishes (bronze, for example), huge mirrors and limestone interior walls.

It looks great with a fancy edge, like a built-up edge on the central island in the kitchen.

Get Copper Canyon Rustic While the Gettin’ is Good

For a while, we saw very little Copper Canyon granite, of any variety, in Austin. It wasn’t as readily available as it is this Spring. We don’t know if that was because it wasn’t popular, or if the quarries it comes from were running at a lower production volume.

Either way, if yoou want it, don’t dally. SGM moves a lot of granite through their yard every week, and if you really like a slab or two from a particular bundle, you’ll want to get your name on it before someone else beats you to it.

Think Austin condo living means giving up some of the nicer details like granite kitchen counters? Not for the new owners of several condos at the Towers of Town Lake, a high rise development between I35 and East Avenue.

Many of the condos at the Towers of Town Lake are bigger than many homes in Austin, with units ranging in size from 1288 square feet up to 2651 square feet. Many units have spectacular views of Town Lake, and other have gorgeous city views.

We’re working on the kitchens and bathrooms for several units that are being remodeled and updated by the new owners.

Designing with Cabernet Bordeaux Granite

This stone has a lot going on. The colors are bold, and so are the complex patterns across the face of the stone.

These Cabernet Bordeaux granite counters are a dark, rich collections of reds, rusts, golds and chocolate browns and have a half-bullnose edge profile. You can see in the photos several different angles for the edges – both an outside corner on the island, and an inside corner. The straight inside corner is for the sink hole, which always get a flat-polish edge.

The kitchen sink will be an undermount, square sink from Blanco.

This material looks great with dark, espresso-colored cabinets, or with white or ivory ones.
