Check out the really pretty custom cabinets under this Santa Cecilia granite island in this new kitchen in Lago Vista, Texas.

Santa Cecilia is one of those granite colors that looks good with almost any cabinet color and style – from very traditional to transitional styles such as this one. These granite counters have a flat-polish edge.

The warm colors in the granite also look great with almost any cabinet colors from white, through the browns and even with the darker colors like this island.

Notice that this Lago Vista kitchen has a single-bowl undermount sink. The sink is just huge – big enough to bathe a small child or a medium-sized dog.

Although our focus is the Austin granite market, we also work with homeowners in some of the surrounding communities such as Lago Vista.

How Big was that Kitchen Island, you ask?

We have a funny story to share with you. Someone commented recently that she had a hard time figuring out if we did real granite, or just little pieces. After some confusion, we realized that the front page of our site was loaded with little tabletops and remnants, and was totally missing photos of the big kitchens and kitchen islands we do.

So, today we share with you a recent job for a client with a gorgeous custom home in Northwest Austin being built by Master’s Touch.

Yes, that is TWO full slabs of granite in that island. It was fascinating to watch the guys lay it out and cut it, and then laminate the edge – make the outer edge twice as thick.

That shadow is me (Alison) up on the forklift. The guys kept running out of the photo, but without them in there, it’s hard to really gauge the size of this puppy.

So, there you have it. We caught a kitchen island and it was THAT BIG!

Most of the homes in Allendale in Northwest Austin are older, and frequently we see photos of Allendale Re-Dos, or remodels. We very very surprised and fortunate, therefore, to have a chance to work with the builder of this high-end new home in Allendale, designed to the exacting specifications of the single male homeowner. The exterior of the home blends seamlessly with the vintage character of the neighborhood while the interior sports an exceptionally fresh, yet subtly masculine look. The kitchen in particular calls upon colors that remind us of a custom tailored suit – greys and blacks, with just the right amount of punch.

Giallo Ornamental – A Granite That Goes With Almost Everything

Jan Mahaffey Blatchley of It’s Faux Real Interiors used Giallo Ornamental granite for the countertops in this remodeled kitchen in Austin, Texas.

This lovely granite works very well with the small pieces of slate on the backsplash. The Giallo Ornamental also looks nice with the pretty glaze on the painted cabinets. The cabinets and the granite have almost an aged, old world look to them even though they are in a newer home.

When materials like these are used in a kitchen, they set the stage for the accessories to get more attention. The home owner can introduce reds, oranges, greens, or many other colors to the space in accessories or fabrics to change up the look. This space can also be re-decorated for different seasons or holidays without having to worry too much about matching colors.

Giallo Ornamental is one of those granites that just works with a lot of different decorating styles.
