We don’t use the word “laminate” in our shop

Unless we’re talking about laminated edges for kitchen islands.

Set aside your notions of “laminated” for a minute and bear with us while we talk about this.

Laminated edges are frequently used to make cheaper granite edge profiles look more expensive. You’ve seen this – thin granite with a doubled-up edge, usually a full bullnose. Some companies do this well, but most don’t. A lot of restaurants have tables with laminated edges to give the appearance of thicker granite whie keeping the weight of the table down.

We rarely have job come through for thinner granite (2cm), since 3cm is the standard in Central Texas.

So, when we have a laminated edge to do, it’s most likley on a high-end kitchen that calls for a double edge of 3cm granite on an island fopr the edge profile. 6cm is almost 2 and a half inches of granite thickness and looks spectacular. In this case, the laminated edge isn’t a way to make cheap granite look more expensive but rather is a way to make expensive granite look even more expensive. It looks out of place in most kitchens, but in high-end homes, the kitchen island is often a focal point of a custom kitchen with pro-style appliances and a laminated-edge island becomes the icing on the cake.

Laminated edges take a lot of time, and a lot of granite, but the finished look is unparalleled.

When you’re designing your kitchen, you can get a bid from us for your granite from the blue-prints of design prints. When your cabinets are ready, we’ll come out and make an exact template of the cabinets to make sure your granite fits just right.

A week later we’ll come back and install them. If you want, you can even some and visit them in the shop while we’re working on them. It’s really a sight to see.
